The Prison I Create – (old post)

There are no bars keeping me in, there is no door without a key in.

All the lights are on without a flicker or dim, my soul free to wander out or in.

And yet I stay frozen to one spot, unable to get past the lock that is not.

I sit and stare at my loves fading smile, trapped in the memory of when I could hold her for a while.

I curse myself and my internal latch, that I cannot get loose from this imaginary catch.

My hands are sore, my eyes are weak, my internal light ever-growing darker and bleak.

The man I once was becoming a ghost in time, locked behind this illusion of mine.

Gone of days when life was a dream to catch, why can I not get past this imaginary latch.

There are no bars, there is no steel, why does my mind command me to kneel?

I have no words, only hate, inside this prison I do create.

I scratch a marking on the wall, to remind me I must obey or face the fall.

And fall I do, further still, into this invisible pit I created by the freedom of my own free will.

The hangman’s noose so appealing,

But today is not my time, I remain for the true love of mine.

No illusionist trick, nor jailers whip, will see me lose my iron like grip.

So I will go on inside my imaginary jail,

And yes, there will be a time that I shall prevail.

Further Thoughts

My second book of poems is available at Amazon on Kindle and paperback.

Give it a go!

Following on from the first book, Further Thoughts is one man’s view of the world around him. It is a candid expression of the trials that come with battling mental health demons, the exhaustion that comes with the search and pursuit of happiness and the inner peace that is achieved once finding it.

Voices Of A Hidden Self and A Travelling Fair (review)

I would like to recommend checking out any of Nigel Smiths work. He is an English Poet and Writer from West Yorkshire. I have read Nigel’s first two books (images below) Voices Of A Hidden Self and A Travelling Fair.

Nigel’s work has beautiful rhythm and a nostalgic feel. His poems are paths to be walked not mountains to be climbed, they have a beautiful melancholy feel to them.

I would also recommend checking out his blog as there you can listen to the man himself reciting some of his work. The Yorkshire mans dulcet tones are a pleasure to listen to.

Kaleidoscopic Beauty: A Collection of Poetry on Love, Loss and the Beauty of the Natural World (review)

A beautiful collection of rich poems. Gentle and easy to read. I found myself floating from one to the next. I find Karen’s writing a calming experience. I also believe however gentle the words are on the whole that there is real substance and layers to each poem, I think there are even darker layers hidden beneath a lighter exterior. My personal favourite is Broken Dreams, I thought about it a lot after reading, it is very simple but hit me straight between the eyes. Well dissevering of 5 stars and I look forward to reading more of this very talented poets work.

Karen’s fantastic work is available on all Amazon sites.

Book Review – Words from an Unlikely Poet

Blue Sky Days 365

I first came across The Unlikely Poet, Charlie Hasler via his blog right here on WordPress not long after I had began my own poetic journey.  Having downloaded and read Words from an Unlikely Poet many months ago, it’s taken me becoming an author myself (psst did you know I’ve published a book?) to understand the true value of genuine reviews.

I promised Charlie that I’d re-read and review his book, so here it is.

This is an excellent debut collection of poetry from British poet, Charlie Hasler.

In this book the author writes on a spectrum of emotional experiences, from the deepest despair, such as in ‘Dead As January’, to the truest words of love in ‘Bluest Moon Rare’. His words will resonate with many leaving you with hope and inspiration.

It’s difficult to choose a favourite but ‘Astride The In Between’ is simply beautiful, with its…
